Those oxalis are wood sorrel and the leaves are edible.
By the by, I have a lot of French sorrel in the garden, lovely in salads and seeds like mad. Anyone in the Bedale area who would like a few plants let me know.
Ooo really? I worked in a cafe when I was a teenager where the chef collected wood sorrel for the salads (he was ahead of his time!) and I had no idea it was oxalis. He also grew French sorrel and coriander in pots - a lot of customers were not impressed but I thought they were delicious.
We’re considering oxalis as ground cover for our very shady front garden. So far only dandelions and foxgloves are thriving, though we planted some clover that’s doing ok
Well you can put the dandelion leaves in salads too but foxglove salad is not recommended. They are pretty, though, and good for our little furry buzzy friends 🐝 🐝
Alas, too many cats using the front garden as a litter box! I bought a £1 parsley from Tesco last year and let it go to seed because ladybirds lay their eggs in it. Now we have parsley plants and seedlings everywhere in the back garden - it’s our primary leafy green!
Interesting, thanks, Caroline.
