Last week my boyfriend and I went on holiday to the Netherlands, specifically so we could visit Burgers Zoo in Arnhem.
I know, I know vegans aren’t supposed to endorse zoos, but I think that being an animal in the wild is HARD (especially if you’re like, a wildebeest) so as long as the animals are happy and healthy, it’s all good.
Anyway, the real highlight was the plants in the rainforest section. They were INCREDIBLE. As incredible as the baby manatee? Nearly.
It was well worth the entry - if only to learn that Calathea are NEVER happy. There were loads of different epipremnums and Monstera that I couldn’t identify. The staff are really helpful and VERY excited to talk about plants.
Also here’s the baby manatee:
Well worth a visit - they focus a lot on conserving species of insects (hence the MASSIVE indoor rainforest that contained 1 x Capybara and about a dozen ducks to the naked eye, but loads of insects and amphibians) and the staff are suuuuper helpful.
I will say that the part of the Netherlands we were in was not good for vegan cuisine (I had bread and jam for breakfast every day, but it was delicious so I’m not bothered) - everything has mayo and cheese by default so make sure you let them know that that’s a no go. I did have a delicious beyond burger in Amersfoort though!
Have an awesome week!
